The Howard Hughes Corporation® to Provide Powerful Photography Throughout

 Signature Office Building

The Howard Hughes Corporation® (NYSE: HHC) announces its partnership with Los Angeles-based artist Nicole Landau to create custom contemporary art for ONE Summerlin, the 200,000-square-foot, Class-A office building at Downtown Summerlin® in the master-planned community of Summerlin®.

The nine-piece, nine-floor custom commission created by Landau is a significant harbinger of The Howard Hughes Corporation’s renewed foray into the world of contemporary fine art. Monumental in size, each of the abstract, contemporary photographs measure 7’ by 13’ and will be located in the lobbies of every floor of the building, greeting guests as they step off the elevator. Every custom piece boasts a distinct identity of its own yet completes a cohesive vision that is second to none.

This new commission at ONE Summerlin represents a rewarding collaboration between The Howard Hughes Corporation, photographer Nicole Landau and fine art consultant Wendy Posner of Posner Fine Art who served as project director. “After looking at over a hundred different artists’ work, I chose Landau because of her vision, versatility and ability to create evocative, site-specific art,” stated Posner.

Landau’s signature imagery begins with her photos of aged architectural elements that she then modifies and manipulates, repeating and deconstructing, blending one upon another until translucent forms emerge, imparting depth and light. In revealing inherent patterns, she transforms common views into previously unimagined landscapes.

Her inspiration for this custom commission comes from the history of the cities that she photographs — the full passage of years recorded silently in layers of paint and in stray marks imparted to the object.  The Blue Pearl on the 6th floor has long gradations of blue tonalities that are derived from Landau’s photo of an old building with sun-bleached paint. The original photo of an oxidized metal doorknob in Bronze on the 5th floor creates an illuminated beauty in its elegant pattern.

“To partner with The Howard Hughes Corporation and create these custom works of art for Downtown Summerlin is an extraordinary opportunity,” stated Landau. “Las Vegas is a remarkable city with a robust assortment of fine art both on and off the Las Vegas Strip. This is a career highlight and one I look forward to sharing with the Las Vegas community.”

Most of Landau’s original pieces also work as preliminary studies for large, monumentally scaled, site-specific commissions, like the ones she and Posner compiled for ONE Summerlin. “This exhibit has challenged me professionally and allowed me to create something truly distinct of which I am very proud,” stated Landau.

“Downtown Summerlin is delighted to host these beautiful, custom pieces by such a respected and talented artist as Nicole Landau,” stated Kevin Orrock, president-Summerlin. “This is one way we have incorporated art and culture into the community while also creating a beautiful and inspirational atmosphere throughout our signature office building.”
