Summerlin® Wins Gold Award For Best Landscape Design

The master-planned community of Summerlin received top honors at The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) 2015 “The Nationals” sales and marketing competition on January 20 at Caesars Palace, held in conjunction with NAHB’s International Builders Show. Summerlin took home the gold for Best Landscape Design, and as such is the only master planned community in Nevada recognized at this year’s event. Summerlin also received four silver awards in the categories of Marketing Director of the Year, Best Web Banners/Rich Media Advertising, Best TV Commercial and Master Planned Community of the Year.  More than 1,300 entries were submitted to the annual competition from across the US and Canada.

“Summerlin has long been recognized for its innovative design elements and is synonymous with beautifully designed neighborhood entries, lush desert landscaping and green open spaces,” said Kevin T. Orrock, president of Summerlin. “Receiving these accolades from The National Association of Home Builders is a great honor and proves we are continuing to deliver on the promise made 25 years ago- to create a beautiful community that looks as good as it lives.”

With approximately 5,400 acres still left to develop, Summerlin’s newest neighborhoods reflect current aesthetic trends and design elements that maintain a cohesive look and feel maintained by the community.

“As we continue to plan this incredible community,  we are  meeting the changing demands of the market while being true to the Summerlin brand,” said Julie Cleaver, vice president of planning & design for Summerlin.  “The planning process can take a thousand turns—from the time our design team sets the theme and architectural style for a village to the development of the neighborhoods and construction of the amenities. Receiving this recognition from such a well respected entity within the building industry is a huge honor and is validation that we have been, and are continuing to do our jobs well.”

Summerlin currently has three villages in development and each is designed with distinct architectural styles crafted by Cleaver and her team. Summerlin standards dictate street slope, wall heights, density and landscaping. Double-tree-lined streets, over-sized sidewalks and landscaped medians are always included. Curvilinear street guidelines mean roads must bend after every seven homes, ensuring that streetscapes are visually appealing and without duplication from any viewpoint.  Specific signage and lighting requirements maintain residents’ views of sweeping vistas, brilliant sunsets, and starlit night skies. Drought tolerant trees, shrubs and flowers are selected to maintain lush, vibrant vegetation year-round while reducing water usage. Newly designed grand shared entrances between adjacent neighborhoods incorporate up to 20,000 square feet of open space with seating and ornate entry structures, providing a unique alternative to pocket parks that are required in every neighborhood in this community, supporting its hallmark outdoor lifestyle.
