LAS VEGAS, NV (July 25, 2025) – Roseman University College of Medicine celebrated a historic milestone today as 64 medical students received their first white coats during the school’s inaugural White Coat Ceremony, marking a significant milestone in Las Vegas’ growing medical education landscape.
The ceremony, held at Emerald at Queensridge, welcomed the College of Medicine’s pioneering Class of 2029, with students ranging in age from 21 to 33 and averaging 24 years old. The diverse cohort represents 14 states, with the largest contingents coming from California and Nevada. In a testament to the school’s commitment to addressing Nevada’s healthcare needs, 15 students—nearly one quarter of the class—are Nevada residents who chose to pursue their medical education close to home.
Reflecting the school’s dedication to expanding access to medical education, 27 percent of the students are first-generation college students, while 14 percent graduated from Title I high schools, underscoring Roseman’s commitment to creating opportunities for students from all backgrounds.
“Today represents more than just the beginning of our students’ medical journey—it’s the foundation of our commitment to training the next generation of physicians who will serve Nevada and beyond,” said Pedro “Joe” Greer, Jr., MD, founding dean of Roseman University College of Medicine. “Having 23 percent of our inaugural class comprised of Nevada residents demonstrates our mission to develop homegrown healthcare leaders who understand the unique needs of our communities.”
The White Coat Ceremony is a cherished tradition in medical education, symbolizing students’ formal entry into the medical profession. Each student received both a white coat and stethoscope, tools that will accompany them throughout their medical careers as they work to diagnose, treat, and heal patients.
In his closing message to the class of medical students, Greer said, ” Let today mark the beginning of a transformative journey—one defined not only by knowledge and skill, but by empathy, respect, and the privilege of caring for others.”
The Class of 2029 will complete their medical education over the next four years, with graduation expected in spring 2029. Upon completion of their degrees and residency training, these physicians will be equipped to practice across various medical specialties and settings.
Proud families, faculty members, and local healthcare leaders gathered to witness this historic milestone, recognizing the significance of Las Vegas’ expanding role in medical education and healthcare training.
