School is back in session, and some of Las Vegas’ most recognizable mascots and superheroes recently teamed up with an important message for drivers: Slow Your Roll!
On Wednesday, Sept. 9, Howard Hughes Communities, developer of Summerlin, brought together an all-star lineup of community mascots, superheroes, law enforcement and safety leaders to remind motorists to slow down, stay alert and help keep students safe in school zones. The initiative comes amid increasing concerns about auto-pedestrian accidents, particularly near schools.
And this may be the most entertaining school-zone safety squad ever assembled.
Joining Summerlin Sam were Chance from the Vegas Golden Knights, Stomper from the Athletics, ReRide from Professional Bull Riders, Aviator and Spruce from the Las Vegas Aviators, Viva from the Las Vegas Lights, Decker from Desert Dogs, McGruff the Crime Dog from LVMPD, Mojave Max from the Clark County Desert Conservation Program, Justice from the City of Las Vegas Public Safety Department, Pit Boss from Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and other familiar faces were out in force.
The morning kicked off at Lummis Elementary School with a brief school-safety press conference featuring Erin Breen from PedSafe Vegas, LVMPD, CCSD Police and Summerlin representatives. Then the real fun began: mascots, joined by superheroes, fanned out to schools throughout the area, “Slow Your Roll” signs in hand, reminding drivers to ease up on the gas as students arrive for class.
It’s a simple message delivered with a little Las Vegas flair: Class is back. Kids are walking. Eyes up, phones down—and Slow Your Roll!
